    Student Ministry Internships

    We are excited to offer a year-long internship opportunity to those who have the vision of being an important part of a vibrant student ministry for Junior High and Senior High students. If you are an engaging, relational leader who is passionate about helping students trust in Christ and grow in biblical maturity, this year-long internship is definitely worth checking out.

    We are seeking to hire two interns for a year-long, part-time ministry who will serve in the overall student ministry team. Interns will experience a wide range of ministry training in their ability to lead, plan, teach, disciple, train, and serve. They will primarily grow in these skills through the context of helping to lead Junior and Senior High School ministries, but will also experience other non-youth ministry responsibilities such as hospital visits, wedding and funeral services, staff meetings, church-wide events, specialized leadership development, and time with pastors and staff who will invest in them through the year.

    These internships provide the following for you:

    • Strengthen your lifelong skill in discipleship, organization, and counseling students;
    • Stretch your understanding of church ministry so that you can become a better leader in the church for the rest of your life;
    • Influence the spiritual growth of students so that they are challenged to impact their world.

    Classification: Part-time, 25 hours per week

    Time Frame: 1 year from start of internship, with possible additional months and/or a second year of internship.

    Salary: $25,000 per year for each internship

    General Purpose: Interns work to provide an environment that encourages and supports spiritual growth and fellowship for the Junior High (7th & 8th grade) and Senior High student (9-12th grades). They help in providing Biblical teaching, organizing small groups and events, along with with giving counsel to students, parents, and volunteer leaders. This position assists the Director of Student and Family Ministries in the overall student ministry which involves future planning, event planning and organization, and equipping leaders. Ultimately the main goal is to help equip students become life-long disciples of Christ.

    Key Areas of Responsibility:

    1. Teaching youth and coordinating other teachers on Sundays mornings and at youth group.
    2. Helping equip leaders to reach and lead students. This is done through training, leader’s meetings, e-mails, one-on-one conversations, and retreats.
    3. Helping organize and oversee small groups.
    4. Helping plan youth ministry activities and schedules for the year and putting on at least one monthly event for the students (this may be combined for Jr. and Sr. High at times).
    5. Attending students’ school events, sports, and activities when possible.
    6. Keeping students and parents informed, up-to-date, and spurred on through regular communication and counsel.
    7. Meeting with the Director of Student and Family Ministries during the week to pray, plan, discuss, and prepare for upcoming youth events and programs.
    8. Participating in local outreach and community involvement with students and parents.
    9. Discipling a few students through the year.
       

    Qualifications:

    • Has a personal story of relationship with Christ.
    • Loves the Lord, actively seeking Him in daily decisions and working to grow in Him.
    • Willing to abide by the doctrine of the church.
    • A growing demonstration of the biblical standards for leadership in Scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-11; Titus 1:5-9).
    • Previous youth experience is preferred, but not required—working with students, leaders, and parents. Has a heart for students and enjoys connecting with them and encouraging them.
    • Bachelor’s degree or some level of schooling is preferred
    • Good relationships with other people, humble, teachable, encouraging, and a
    • Demonstrated team player
    • Good administrative, coordinating, communication, and delegating abilities.
    • Reliable, trustworthy, hard worker, seeking to get things done efficiently and effectively.
    • Self-starter, takes initiative.
    • Basic ability to accurately handle God’s Word and convey His truth to students, and willingness to learn more about teaching.
    • Actively seeking to promote the direction and unity of the overall church.
    • Willing to attend Grace faithfully on Sunday mornings during the internship.
    • Capacity to coordinate other part-time work or schooling with the work at Grace.

    Young Adult Ministry Internship

We are seeking to hire one intern for a year-long, part-time ministry who will serve in the Young Adult Ministry (ages 18-29). This internship will provide the following for you:

    • Strengthen your lifelong skill in discipleship, organization, and counseling young adults who are learning, expanding, and maturing;
    • Stretch your understanding of church ministry so that you can become a better leader in the church for the rest of your life;
    • Influence the spiritual growth of young men and women so that they are challenged to impact their world;
    • Make a difference in the life of others for Christ.

The intern will primarily grow in his skills in the context of an exciting generation of young adults, as well as experience in other church ministries and leadership development. Most of his experience will be with the Director of Student and Family Ministries, but will also experience other non-youth ministry responsibilities such as hospital visits, wedding and funeral services, staff meetings, church-wide events, specialized leadership development, and time with pastors and staff will invest in them through the year.

    General Purpose: This intern will create and sustain an environment of spiritual growth and fellowship for Young Adults (ages 18-29), including the group we call “Grace Grads” (college students who have grown up at Grace, but may not be involved in campus ministries). This role focuses upon discipleship of young adults, organizing social events and retreats, and developing community with other young adults in the Peoria area. This position also keeps in touch with college students from Grace who live outside of Peoria through e-mail, phone, and social media. During Christmas break and summer, this position helps to coordinate Grace Grads Sundays, including volunteers who can lead and teach. This position’s main goal is to help equip young adults and Grace Grads to live as faithful disciples of Christ.

    Key Areas of Responsibility:

    1. Equipping leaders to disciple and connect with young adults. This is done through training, resourcing, e-mails, and one-on-one conversations.
    2. Coordinating with staff and pastors to make sure there are community groups for Grace Grads and young adults, promoting these groups.
    3. Working with volunteer leaders and young adults to plan and carry out social events and retreats.
    4. Keeping parents of Grace Grads updated on plans, especially during winter and summer break.
    5. Meeting with the Director of Youth Ministries weekly to plan, discuss, and prepare for upcoming retreats or events.
    6. Coordinating with the Director of Youth Ministries on helping high school seniors transition well into the next stage of life.
    7. Connecting with young adults through e-mail, social media, texting, and in person.
    8. Looking for and participating in local outreach and community involvement. Looking for opportunities for the young adults to get involved and grow in their service and outreach, especially in partnership with what our church is doing.
    9. Personally discipling 1 or 2 young adults or grace grads of the same gender.
    10. Working with administrative assistants to coordinate payments, registrations, and events.
