The heart of this year will be to show how all of history, all of scripture, and every happening—whether through joy or sorrow—has lead or points to God’s redemption and love for His people. It will center on the opening of Hebrews, which says, “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whose he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sings, he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high.” This will be the cornerstone verse that allows us to see that every prophecy—from “he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” to “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light”—culminate in the Word becoming flesh and now speaking for Himself. Our Wonderful Counselor orchestrated His coming through heroes, kings, the unfaithful, the heretic, the immigrant, the adulterer, the outcast, and, even with their sin and the evil one roaming this world, not one promise could be thwarted but only upheld. God’s promises are what we look to for hope, and now we are told to “fix your hope completely at the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13). Because of this, we look to our God who left his throne of glory for a cradle in the dirt, so that we could be brought from our lowly estate to enjoy a destiny of having no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun.
