My grandfather was not always spiritually sensitive, but guarded his exclamations of delight, amazement or exasperation with biblical phrases that kept his grandchildren from blushing—or tattling. “Good land a living!” and “Land of Goshen!” were exclamations that I understood more because of the vehemence of their expression than the Bible material they referenced. But I always understood his most common expression: “Glory Be!” It meant something very special had just happened that defied explanation but was deeply appreciated. That’s the essence of this Easter series entitled “Glory Be,” as we seek to appreciate something very special (the resurrection of Jesus) that defies human explanation but defines divine mercy and power.
